D2: Justify the creation process against the original concept documentation
I believe that my audio-visual product was heavily influenced by my planned work. From my mind-map where it came to brainstorming ideas about my documentary to my storyboard and producing the visual predicted idea I had for my documentary.
In the case of my mind map, I added the clear ideas I wanted to include. I knew how I wanted to layout my documentary, which was interviewing the cast and crew members and including shots of the film with voice over of the interview over it. I was able to make this explicit in my mind map and brainstorm the fact that I will be including different shots from the film that link to what the interviewees will be talking about. I also mentioned that I will find a suitable audio track that will flow throughout the documentary. I wanted to add this because I wanted my documentary to be engaging and have some sort of background music, rather than having it with just strictly shots and interviews, because if I was the audience although it would have been showing me useful background information about the cast and crew, I would have liked it more with a suitable audio track in the background.
I believe my storyboard is followed in my audio-visual product to the best of its ability. The only differences I would say would be the cuts I decided to add in the storyboard compared to how it was shown in the documentary, but that is not my fault as it wasn't a rehearsed interview therefore I didn't know the answers the interviewees would give and what shots I would like to include from the film. So although, my storyboard differs a bit to the final outcome of my audio-visual product, its only due to the fact that it was hard to predict what would be said, but I was able to give a fair idea on what I felt like they would say and I was almost right.
The editing decisions I came up with in my mind map were met. As the interviewees first appeared I gave them a title card to introduce them, although they already introduced themselves in the interview. I believed that adding the title card would make it more professional and just give the audience more familiarity with the interviewees. The quick cuts between the interview and shots was met, due to what the interviewees were saying, I wanted to add some shots from the film to my audio-visual product in order to give the audience a little insight on what they are talking about in order to familiarise the audience with it, but make sure I don't give out too much information from the shots in case the audience would like to watch it. The cuts between the interview and shots from the film was carefully done, in order to get a flow from an interview to a voice over to the shots, I was able to make this flow without the audience identifying there has been a quick jump cut.
In summary, I understand how important it is to make sure concept documentation is done properly so it doesn't affect the production process of making an audio-visual product and disrupt anything. Although I couldn't predict what the interviewees would be saying in their interviews, I was able to have a fair idea, which enabled me to have strong documents to not disrupt anything in the process of making my audio-visual product.
