M3: Justify the visual and audio effects used within the promo
After adding the shots I want to include in my documentary I then added transitions, cuts, title pages and music.
In my time line you can see that there are lots of cut away between the interviews and voiceovers along with some shots from the film. The reason why I decided to do this was because when the interviewees were talking about a certain shot or something that happened in the film, I thought it will be best to add that particular thing in the evidence, so it can show the audience what they are talking about incase they haven't watched it.
Adding cutaways allowed me to give the audience an indication on what they were talking about and I also thought it would have been a boring documentary if I just put in the whole interview without any evidence from the film, or little clips, because I don't think it would have been engaging enough and it would have led the audience to be frustrated. The voiceovers give a flow of the audio from the interview allowing there to not be any cuts or awkward silence moments. I made sure I was very careful in to making the cuts in the audio correctly.
Although having quick cuts from the interviews to some scenes/shots and vice versa is ideal and good, I also though of adding some transitions between them as well. Like for example, when I would then introduce a different interviewee, this will then allow it to have some sort of flow and rhythm to the audience that something different will occur, because having the sharp cuts would kind of make the audience confused and unsettled as they wouldn't have the clarification that one of the interviews has finished. As I edited my documentary, I watched it without the transitions and some of the cuts went really well but for some I believed needed transitions, just so it can go smoothly as they were quite sharp and I didn't like the quick cuts it had.
Once I have finished the editing, I watched it over and sensed it was missing music and identified it would have been much more relaxing and engaging if I had some sort of music going on in the background at a very low volume. After looking for the right one for a long period of time, I found one that was able to flow with the style of the documentary and make it understandable.
This is a screenshot I have taken of my timeline in its complete form before exporting it:
